Who’s idea was that? And worse, who signed off on it for the Globe? Can you get fired for not showing up for work with a lifetime job guarantee?

I’m sorry, 1993 after a recession was no reason to guarantee any job. They should have let them strike, if that was the option. And how can you take the Globe seriously when they have a sports staff traveling all over the country covering teams not even in their market? They are just dumb. Nobody needs to read two Globe staffers covering the Final Four when AP covers it just as well. How much do those trips, expenses and hotel rooms cost? Give me a break.

And after reading Roeper’s piece, I didn’t find it that bad. He basically is saying what we already knew. Most columnists are celebrities more than writers. Just look at the Globe’s Bob Ryan. His newspaper job has led to tons of other employment on TV.
