Google is just being self interested in keeping the content creation coming while they operate the distribution channels.

When will you stop putting those two words together?

News has nothing to do with paper.

News can live on. Paper is dying.

Just deal with it.

If you want to see how altruistic Google is, just take a look at their forays into the mobile phone and tablet market.

Apple has had success being the packager of novelty, but Microsoft, through accidents of history and criminal activities, made most of the money off of those novelties.

Now Google is the corporation that is taking over Microsoft’s role, hopefully without the coercion and anti-trust illegalities.

Apple will still be Apple and there’s nothing with that.

Some things take a long time to evolve, or devolve, the dinosaurs are taking a long time to die, but the thrashing is getting a lot less intense.

The world-wide credit crisis will be seen as the event that caused the death of the paper-based news distribution industry, since it could be supplanted by the internet for a fraction of the cost while drying up its source of revenue, chiefly advertising.
